EATCS honours three outstanding PhD theses with the EATCS Distinguished Dissertation Award for 2023EATCS is proud to announce that, after examining the nominations received from our research community, the EATCS Distinguished Dissertation Award Committee 2023, consisting of Nikhil Bansal (chair), Petra Berenbrink, Jaroslav Nešetřil, Damian Niwiński, Vladimiro Sassone, Alexandra Silva, David Woodruff and Standa Zivny has selected the following three theses as recipients of the EATCS Distinguished Dissertation Award for 2023:
William Kuszmaul (PhD at MIT; advisor: Charles E. Leiserson), for his outstanding dissertation "Randomized Data Structures: New Perspectives and Hidden Surprises". Nathan Klein (PhD at the University of Washington; advisors: Anna Karlin and Shayan Oveis Gharan), for his outstanding dissertation "Finding Structure in Entropy: Improved Approximation Algorithms for TSP and other Graph Problems". Ruiwen Dong (PhD at the University of Oxford; advisors: Christoph Haase and James Worrell), for his outstanding dissertation "Algorithmic Problems for Subsemigroups of Infinite Groups". The award certificate will be presented to in the award ceremony of ICALP 2024, to take place in Tallinn, Estonia, in July 8-12, 2024. |
